In-Home Childcare Rehab Program

This program helps childcare providers create safe, healthy spaces for children in Grand Island.
Who Can Apply?
- Live in Grand Island city limits.
- Operate an in-home childcare.
- Have a valid ID & last year's tax return (Form 1040).
- Budget Class Required-be willing to take part in classes or get help from a coach. Many programs pay you for your time! (some options listed below)

- Rooted In Relationships- You get one-on-one coaching and payment for your time
- Sixpence- Offers support and pays you while you learn
- Step Up to Quality- Helps you grow your childcare program and pays you for your time
- Grow with Words- Helps you build language and reading skills with kids
- CCP- Gives you tools and supports for childcare
- Let us check your home for:
- Floodplain Risk
- Environmental Hazards (radon & lead)
- Historic Building Rules
What You Can Get Help With
- Egress windows & basement doors
- Fencing, sinks, smoke detectors, GFI outlets
- Updating or expanding rooms to add capacity for additional children or staff
How the Money Works
- Collect 3 bids for the work (or explain if that's not possible)
- Contractor MUST be insured and is responsible for obtaining necessary permits
- CDHD will review bids and select contractor
- Contractor will sign a contract with CDHD
- CDHD will pay the contractor directly
- 50% can be paid when work starts; the rest after it's finished
